Traditional wooden inn at dusk with glowing lanterns and lit windows

A family inn on the old post road, where walkers have slept for generations.

Hinoki-juku is a two-storey wooden inn on the Nakasendō, run by the same family for six generations. The rooms are small, the floors creak, and the walls are cypress from the valley.

Dinner is around the hearth: river trout, mountain vegetables, chestnut rice in autumn. The shared bath is fed by a nearby hot spring, and after a day on the trail it will feel like the best bath in Japan.
