Contemporary art on a fishing island, and the Inland Sea turning silver at six.
A small island in the Seto Inland Sea became one of the world’s great places to see art. Museums are cut into the hillsides. Old houses have been turned into installations. A yellow pumpkin sits on a pier.
The neighbouring islands, Teshima and Inujima, are smaller and slower. On Teshima a single building holds water, light and wind, and very little else.
Stay overnight. The ferries take the day visitors home, and the island returns to cats, fishermen and the sound of the tide.
