Stays·onsen inn·Takayama & the Japanese AlpsPlaceholder
A mountain inn in the Okuhida valleys, each room with its own open-air bath under the cedars.
The inn is a cluster of old farmhouses moved here beam by beam. Dinner is cooked over a sunken hearth: river fish on skewers, Hida beef, miso grilled on a magnolia leaf.
Each room has its own stone bath on a veranda, fed by a spring that has run hot for longer than anyone remembers. In winter, you bathe while it snows.
